Main Street Residence

Although not a residential college, beginning in Fall 2026, the building that previously housed Lovett College will open as Main Street Residence and will remain available for undergraduates. Due to ongoing demand for on-campus housing, Rice will continue to make this space available to undergraduates for several years while we add additional beds to campus through other means.

Main Street Residence will operate as on‑campus apartment‑style housing rather than as a residential college. Students assigned to Main Street Residence will retain full membership in their home college during their year in Main Street Residence and will continue to be supported by their college core teams.

All students housed in Main Street Residence will have access to its servery and commons, though we strongly encourage students to remain engaged with their home college communities. The basement level will be fully transitioned to Housing & Dining operations and will not be accessible to students.

Mail will be delivered to their home college, and those living in Main Street Residence are encouraged — but not required — to dine at their home college’s servery.

Two full‑time Resident Supervisors will live in the building and serve as resources for all residents:

Hollie Evans hrf1@rice.edu
Nancy Vincent nv35@rice.edu

Please note that these are not typical Resident Associate (RA) positions, as students living in this space are encouraged to continue working with their home college core teams.

The selection process for Main Street Residence is overseen by the Office of the Division of Student Life and Undergraduate Education. Information about eligibility and the application process will be published annually once available. Students who secure a space at Main Street Residence must forfeit their space on their home college’s wait list.
